Questions we get asked

Answered plainly. If yours isn't here, just ask us.

These are the questions that come up most often. We have tried to answer them the way we would want them answered — plainly, including the parts that are less flattering.

If what you want to know isn’t here, ask us directly. We would rather have an honest conversation early than a disappointed one later.

What exactly is included in the £350,000?The property — approximately 1.1 hectares of land, the house and the outbuildings — together with the established Isle of Man business, its client base and its goodwill. Also included: comprehensive training and a 24-month support period. It is sold as one package; we are not separating the two.
Why won't you publish the income figures?Because publishing the financial detail of a live business tells its competitors as much as it tells you. Full figures and accounts go to serious enquirers under a non-disclosure agreement. What we will say publicly is that the income is recurring, monthly, and sufficient for a comfortable life in Portugal — as it has been for years.
Why do I have to sign an NDA?The detail of the business — who the clients are, what they pay, how the systems work — is a large part of what you would be buying. Some of those clients have trusted us for more than a decade. Protecting them is not evasiveness; it is part of the asset’s value, and you would want the same protection once it is yours.
Do I need to be technical to run the business? No. If you can comfortably use a computer for ordinary tasks, you can run it. The systems were rebuilt around an AI framework specifically so the repetitive work is automated rather than manual. You will get full training, and two years of our support behind you.
Can I buy just the house, or just the business? No. We could likely realise more by splitting them, and we have chosen not to. The combination — a home you own outright and an income that isn’t tied to a location — is the entire point. Sold separately, neither half is the opportunity.
Is finance available? No. We cannot offer finance or a staged buy-out. You would need the £350,000 available. The structure of the sale itself is flexible and we are happy to discuss how it is put together, but the funds need to be there.
Where in Portugal is it?About 9 km from Sertã, in central Portugal — a short drive, up a good forest track that runs roughly 300 metres off the road. Sertã is a proper town with supermarkets, banks, a health centre, restaurants and a weekly market, not a village that shuts at lunchtime. The property itself is on high ground with pine forest around it. We do not publish the exact address publicly, for the same reasons we do not publish the business detail — serious enquirers get the full location and maps once we have spoken.
How far is it from an airport?Lisbon is about two hours direct. Coimbra is around an hour and a half, and the coast about an hour. Far enough to be quiet, close enough that family can actually visit.
What are the river beaches like?Central Portugal has praias fluviais — river beaches where a low weir slows the water into something deep and clear enough to swim in properly. Sand, trees down to the water, and deep shade on a hot afternoon. The nearest one to us is, in our opinion and plenty of others’, among the nicest in Portugal. It is free and it is a short drive.
What about wildfire? There have been fires in central Portugal, though none of note near here for some years now. Worth saying plainly, though: wildfire has stopped being a southern European peculiarity. Australia, California, Greece — and the UK has had its own serious fires in recent summers. It is a fact of a warming climate rather than a fact about Portugal, and arguably less of a distinguishing factor here than it has ever been. Practically, Portuguese law requires landowners to keep cleared, defensible space around buildings, and that clearing is simply part of the year here, much like cutting the wood. Ask us and we will talk it through properly.
How is the house heated in winter?A large wood burner in the living room heats the whole house, and there is a second, smaller one in a bedroom. The firewood comes off the property’s own trees — there is enough standing timber to keep going indefinitely. Firewood is also sold locally and it is remarkably cheap, so the bought option is there on any year you would rather not cut your own. Winters in central Portugal are cooler and wetter than people expect, so you will use it. Worth being clear that doing it yourself is a job as well as a comfort: cut, split, stacked, and left a year to season, every autumn.
Does the property flood? No. It sits on raised ground and never has. It is one of the reasons we chose it.
What condition is the house in?Comfortable, warm and fully functional — we live in it. It would benefit from a coat of paint and some modernising. We would rather tell you that on the website than have you discover it on a viewing. It is not a renovation project, but it is not a finished one either.
Do I need to speak Portuguese? It helps, and you will want to learn some. But English is widely understood locally, which makes the first year far easier than most people expect. We managed, and so will you.
What about visas and residency as a UK citizen?Since Brexit, UK citizens need a residency visa to live in Portugal long-term. Portugal has well-established routes for people with independent or passive income, which is precisely the position buying this business would put you in. We are not immigration advisers and you should take proper advice — but we can tell you how the process worked in practice and point you at the people who helped us.
Are there more photographs? Many more. What is on this site is a sample — the full set covers every room, the outbuildings, the goat sheds and the land through all four seasons, and it goes out once a non-disclosure agreement is signed. Same reason as the figures and the exact address: it is still our home, and it stays reasonably private until we are talking to somebody real.
Can I come and see it?Yes, and we would expect you to. Viewings are for people who have spoken to us first and are genuinely in a position to proceed — not because we are precious about it, but because it is a long way to come on a whim.
How does the handover actually work?Gradually. You get comprehensive training at whatever pace suits you, then a 24-month support period during which we remain available to you and, where it matters, to the clients. The intention is that neither you nor they experience a cliff edge.
Is the business affected by where I live? No, and that is the point of it. It is run online and has been operated from Portugal for years. It needs a good internet connection, and the property has one.
How quickly do you want to sell?We are not in a hurry. We would rather wait for the right buyer than push it through with the wrong one. If that is you, there is no pressure to move at anyone’s pace but your own.

Tell us where you are in the process. If it looks like a fit we'll talk properly, and if it isn't we'll say so quickly.
